Rho Appoints Jack Modell, MD, as Chief Medical Officer

Rho, a full-service contract research organization, promoted healthcare veteran Jack Modell, MD, to the post of Chief Medical Officer. Rho helps pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies bring their products to market through high-quality clinical research services.

Dr. Modell, who joined Rho in 2014 as Vice President and Senior Medical Officer, was most recently the company’s Senior Vice President and Senior Medical Officer. A board-certified psychiatrist with 40 years of experience in clinical research, Dr. Modell’s career has included 20 years in senior leadership roles within the pharmaceutical and CRO sectors, including 10 years at GlaxoSmithKline. He also spent 20 years in academic medicine, teaching, providing patient care, and conducting clinical research. This extensive experience spans clinical drug development across multiple therapeutic areas, and includes medical affairs, successful new drug application filings and approvals, medical governance, pharmacovigilance, and compliance.

“Jack has played a key role in our company’s success, working tirelessly with sponsors to ensure the welfare of clinical trial participants, and the safety and integrity of our clinical trials and programs,” said Dr. Helms Reece. “These valuable strategic and scientific contributions, and the benefit they ultimately bring to patients, will be essential as we expand our medical function to support our increasing client base.”

“My goal in the CMO role will be to position Rho for future growth, while continuing to advance our excellent medical services and robust clinical research programs to bring new medications to patients who need them,” said Dr. Modell. “An initial focus will be to build on Rho’s foundational expertise in biometrics and data analytics to implement exceptional data visualization tools to support clinical decision-making.”

Dr. Modell holds a BA in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado, and an MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed a psychiatric residency at Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, and a fellowship in academic psychiatry, neuroimaging and anxiety disorders at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
